VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an additional network built on an existing untrusted network. The purpose is typically to offer a secure and governed expansion of the internal network across an untrusted network - such as the Internet
There are usually two different use cases, when considering VPN: Site2Site and Remote Access
Site2Site VPN are used when inter-connecting a remote branch office over the Internet.
Remote Access are used for the mobile workforce, using a software solution to connect to the head quarter. In stead of a software solution, there's an alternative called SSL VPN, which only requires using a standard browser, ie Internet Explorer or Firefox.
